      Schultz, First Baron Signed, Awaits Opener


      One of the first players to ink a Marion Baron contract for the fast approaching hockey season here was Kenny Schultz, a red-headed forward.

      Schultz is one of the players working out at the combined Baron-Cleveland training camp on Lake Simcoe at Barrie, Ontario The two teams open the hockey season here in an exhibition game Oct. 11.

      The 5' 11", 175-pound Schultz will be available for use at the left wing or center positions since he has played both He broke into organized hockey with the Pittsburgh Hornets. He later played with the Washington Lions and the Cleveland Barons and in the Pacific Coast League.

      Knocked out twice in one game while playing for the Washington Lions, Schultz is a rough and ready player. Kenny says "I expect to give and take a few more jolts before this season is over." "It's all in the game." Coach Ott Heller of the Barons says "Kenny has plenty of what it takes to be in there fighting when the going gets rough."

      A native of Preston, Ontario. where he was born in 1926, Kenny is married. He plans to live and work in Marion during the off-season.

      Hockey officially opens here with a free hockey clinic at the Coliseum Oct 10. The Marion Barons will run off plays against the Cleveland Barons, American Hockey League champions and parent club of the local Barons.
