- DICKIE, ELIZABETH H. (Nee Archibald)
After a brief illness, at the General Hospital in Winnipeg, on March 16th 1923, at the age of 69 years. She was born in Wellington County, near Aberfoyle on March 24th 1854. Here she lived until 1875, when she removed with her parents to Lucknow, Bruce County. In 1878, she married William A. Dickie and lived on the old Dickie homestead for thirty-three years. Here she devoted herself to the interest of her family and of the community. In early years, Mrs. Dickie came to know the Lord as her Saviour and Redeemer and ever sought to walk with God and to lead others to know Him. In this neighbourhood, she conducted a Sunday school for years and gave herself to the uplifting of the young people. Mrs. Dickie was a life-long member of the Presbyterian Church and was always actively engaged in both home and foreign missions. In 1911, the family went west and settled near Melfort, SK. Survived by her husband; two sons, J. Russell of Melfort; and J. Gordon of Eldorado, Arkansas; three daughters, Mrs. W. Fred Evans of Beatty, SK; Mrs. George A. Evans of Davis, SK; and Bessie A. of the Midland Bible Institute of Kansas City; three sisters, Mrs. T. W. Baird of Feronia, ON; Helen C. Archibald of Midland, ON; and Mary A. Archibald of Beachville, ON. Two brothers, John and James Archibald predeceased her. The funeral took place on Tues., Mar. 29th from her residence near Melfort to St. James' Presbyterian Church at 2: 30, thence to Mount Pleasant Cemetery for interment. The pallbearers were two nephews, J. Glen Gibson and R. Gordon Gibson; Arthur W. Robson, Herbert J. Robson, Edward Gerrish and Lee Eagle. The casket was covered with beautiful floral offerings, which included one from the Session of St. James' Church, one from the Missionary Society and a cross presented by the Gibson family, including Mr. and Mrs. Edward Gerrish.
