Demise of Peter Marshall - In the death of Mr. Peter Marshall, which unlooked for event occurred early Monday morning at his home, Northumberland St., Ayr, the community loses another life-long, well-known and highly esteemed citizen. The deceased, who was in his 51st year, had been ill for some time, and had retired from his occupation as a farmer, but he had been improving in health up to a few days before his death, so that his sudden passing came as a shock to the community. He was born in the adjoining township of Blenheim, and lived there all his life until coming to Ayr last spring. Like many of the successful tillers of the soil in this section, Mr. Marshall adhered closely to his calling, seldom taking much interest in political or municipal affairs. He, however, identified himself with the Reform party, and in religion was a Presbyterian - a member of Stanley-St. Church and an ex-office bearer. His partner in life, whose maiden name was Maggie Oliver, survives, together with five children - three sons and two daughters, namely, Anthony, Leslie, Chester, Margaret and Belle, all of whom are at home. Three brothers and three sisters also survive. They are - Stephen, Blenheim; Anthony, Calgary; Ralph, Winnipeg; Maggie, Ayr; Mrs. E. Deans, Paris, and Mrs. Geo. Dickie, London. The funeral took place yesterday afternoon, when the remains were followed to their last resting place in the Ayr cemetery by a large number of friends and relatives. The services were conducted by Deceased's pastor, Rev. D. I. Ellison. The pall-bearers were Messrs. Thos. Hall, Cameron Marshall, W. A. Ramsay, T. O. Scott, Wm. Manson and George Gourlay (Paris). Mr. Marshall was an Oddfellow and the members of the Order here attended the obsequies in a body. The cortege was the largest ween in Ayr in some time.
