- Mary (Reinhardt)Fahnlander, daughter of David and Katherine Reinhardt, was born October 12, 1868 in Ontario, Canada. She was one of a family of sixteen children. When she was ten years old the family moved to Moorhead, MN. She was married there to Philip Fahnlander January 27, 1886. Philip Fahnlander was the son of Leonard and Augusta Fahnlander. They came to Bruce County in Ontario from Germany around 1860. They moved to Duluth, MN in 1876 and later settled in Georgetown, MN. The young couple came to homestead in what is now Osnabrock Township.
They were the parents of three sons - Williams Peter, born January 18, 1887, lived in Minot, ND and died in 1928; Charles J., born September 19, 1888, married Josephine Delvo and died March 4, 1972; and Philip Leo David was born Mary 14, 1890. He lived in Eugene, OR and died January 17, 1972.
Phil became ill with pneumonia or "the grip" as it was called at that time and died January 20, 1890.
The young mother homesteaded on land in Easby Township a few years after her husband died and the pioneer family home was mained there until she was married to Thomas Gaffney at Olga, ND October 12, 1897.
Thomas Gaffney was born April 6, 1865 to Mr. and Mrs. M. C. Gaffney of Morris, MN coming to Cavalier County in 1882. They established their home on Thomas' farm southwest of Easby, ND along with Mary's three sons - William, Charles and Philip.
They were the parents of five children: Ann (Mrs. J. R. Delvo of Osnabrock; Roland of Walhalla, ND; Beatrice (Mrs. Ed Lindsay) of Langdon ND; Marguerite (Mrs. John T. Delvo) of Osnabrock; and Frank of Kellog, ID.
Thomas died from appendicitis December 11, 1908. Mary continued to live on the farm until 1920 when she moved to Langdon. She lived there until her death September 23, 1946. Mary was a member of St. Alphonsus Church and she and Thomas are buried in Calvary Cemetery at Langdon.
