Notes |
- Aged Brother and Sister Found Dead - On Thursday last week, Jacob Thomasing, aged 71, and his sister, Mary Thomasing, aged 73, were found dead at their home near Bloomingdale. A neighbor, Mrs. Sebleski, went to the Thomasing home to buy some wood. She found the body of the old man lying in the barn beside the hay wagon which he had apparently fallen to the floor and being stun? had frozen to death before regaining consciousness. Other neighbors were called and on investigation they found the woman's frozen body lying on the floor in the bedroom with her arms folded across her body as if she had been laid out.
The brother and sister had lived together on the place for many years but being very retiring had not mingled much with the neighbors. Mrs. Sebleski had not seen either brother of sister for about six weeks but the assessor had been at the farm about a week before the bodies were found. Five sisters survive, namely: Mrs. Ed McEllistrum, Elmira; Mrs. Straub, Waterloo; Mrs. Matthias, Kossuth; and two living in Michigan.
