Notes |
- E. Radigan, Painter and Paper-hanger, Main Street
The business so successfully conducted by the above mentioned gentleman has been established over 32 years, Mr. John McFarlane being the founder. Messrs. Ferguson & Co., of which Mr. Radigan was the Co., conducted it for six years, and then Mr. Radigan became sole proprietor, and has managed it for the past 14 years. He carries a large and well selected stock of domestic and foreign wall papers of the latest and most fashionable designs, also oils, paints, glass, etc; he also does business in house and sign painting, and many artistic specimens thickly studded throughout the town attest to his ability in this direction. The premises occupied by him, which are centrally located on Main Street, are 24x90 feet in dimensions, where employment is given to eight skilled workmen. Mr. Radigan's business extends Throughout the town and country, and the many new buildings being constantly erected keeps him constantly employed in his line. He is a native of Ireland, and came to Canada in 1846. He was a member of the School Board, and was its chairman for several years. He was also a distinguished member of the old volunteer fire department, and was its last chief engineer, as the men resigned in a body when he tendered his resignation to the Council, and a semi-paid department was formed. He is a persevering and enterprising business man, and highly esteemed by all who know him.
