Death of Mr. James Shaw
After an illness extending over some months, this well-known resident of Waterloo passed to his rest on Thursday afternoon last. Of a genial, easy temperament, Mr. Shaw made hosts of friends, all of whom will sincerely regret to hear of his death. Deceased came to Canada in 1837, we believe, in company with his father and brothers and sisters, the family consisting of Adam, now of Sullivan, but for many years of Hespeler ; Walter, now in Hespeler ; David, living in Embro; Joseph, who lately removed to Manitoba; Mrs. Eskdale, of Waterloo Township and Mrs. McLean, of Tuckersmith. Shortly after coming to this country the family settled in Waterloo, taking up a large block of land and on a very fine portion of this land the deceased continuously resided up to the time of his death. The deceased gentleman was married to a sister of Mrs. James Cowan of Waterloo, and leaves his aged wife and a family of three sons and four daughters. The funeral took place on Saturday afternoon last to Hespeler cemetery, and was very largely attended by those who, while in life, had the pleasure of Mr. Shaw's friendship and acquaintance.
