- WOOLNER, Ella (nee Brubacher) - 1923-2005. Passed away peacefully in her sleep, at Freeport Health Centre of Grand River Hospital, in Kitchener, in her 83rd year, on Friday, September 30, 2005, after a brief struggle with cancer.Ella was born August 12, 1923, in Kitchener, Ontario.Wife of the late Maurice Woolner (1989) to whom she was married for 44 years. Dear mother of Glen and his wife Margaret of Kitchener, Jan Fretz of Waterloo, and Larry and his wife Joanne of Parry Sound. She will be lovingly remembered by her eight grandchildren, Lora Woolner and her husband Mark Schmidt, Aaron, Sara Fretz and her husband Tim Corlis, Greg Fretz, Ana Fretz and her fiance William Loewen, Joshua, Aislinn, and Angela and great-granddaughters Clara Corlis and Morgen Schmidt. Sister of Nora Bechtel and her husband Leonard of New Hamburg, Verna Staniek of Airdrie, Alberta, and Elaine Snider and her husband Clifford of Cambridge. Sister-in-law to Priscilla Szuck, Doreen Woolner and Elvina Woolner. She was predeceased by her parents, Harvey and Edna (Eby) Brubacher, an infant sister, Clarabelle, brother Ivan and his wife Marie, brothers-in-law Leonard Woolner, Walter Woolner, Royden and his wife Mildred, John Szuck, Fred Staniek, and an infant granddaughter, Lisa Andrea. Ella was a woman of strong faith and optimism and an active member of First Mennonite Church in Kitchener where she remained an active participant of the Women's Sewing Circle. She was also a very active member of the Eastwood Community where she resided. Ella could either be found around the quilting frames quilting, binding another comforter, or at the games table playing one of her favourite games. She was a true friend to many and befriended many with comforting words, food, and care. She will be deeply missed. Friends are invited to share their memories of Ella with her family at the Ratz-Bechtel Funeral Home in Kitchener during visitation on Monday, October 3, 2005 from 7-9 p.m. and on Tuesday, October 4, 2005 from 12: 30-2 p.m. at First Mennonite Church, 800 King St. E. in Kitchener. A Funeral Service to celebrate Ella's life and faith will immediately follow at 2 p.m. with Pastor Gary Knarr officiating. After the funeral service and interment, friends and relatives are invited to remain at the church for refreshments and a time to visit with the family. In lieu of flowers, donations to First Mennonite Church or Mennonite Central Committee Ontario would be appreciated as expressions of sympathy and can be arranged through the funeral home. A special thank you to Dr. Richard Kennel and Dr. Ronald Pace as well as the staff at Grand River Hospital, and Dr. Williamson and staff at the Freeport Palliative Care Hospital for their exceptional care and comfort. "Remember her with a smile today, she was not one for tears. Reflect instead on memories of all the happy years. Recall to mind the way she spoke of all the things she said. Her strength, her stance, the way she walked, remember these instead. The good advice she'd give us, her eyes that shone with laughter. So much of her will never die, but live on ever after."
