Andreas (Sr.) Rau died 4 Sep 1869 in New Hamburg, 64 yrs, born in Weigheim, Wuertemberg. Came to Canada 15 yrs ago, where 2 of his sons were. After a few yrs, he took over the Hamburger Brewery with them, finally bought it, and made it bigger & more practical. Business had many customers through hard work & gained good reputation. Was friendly & fair. Loved by all, was an "old" German businessman in fullest sense of word. How high he stood in the public's eye was seen in St. Agatha, when all of New Hamburg, so to speak, and others came to his funeral. 9 Sep 1869
