Notes |
- Frederick David Huether, born at Albany, N.Y., November 19th, 1853, came here with his father, Ludwig, in 1856. He learned the Blacksmithing trade with his father and apart from a few years spent working for Jacob Beck at Baden and over at Doon, his entire lifetime was spent working at the Lower Mill. He died April 18th, 1928. He was a good citizen in every way and a fine Gentleman; He took an active interest in the Fire Brigade for many, many years and in the year 1887 was a member of the Municipal Council. Like some of the rest of us, he was interested in various sports; Base-ball, I should say, above the others and as to his skill, let me tell you this; One day I happened to be in the Lower Mill talking to Mr. Lester E. Weaver, when a fellow came along with the broken part of some machine and asked what was to be done. Lester did not hesitate a second; He just said "Take it to Fred. He will look after it." What finer compliment I ask, coming from a man like Lester Weaver, could be paid to anyone? Fred could fix anything that it was possible to fix.

One of Hespeler's most highly respected citizens. He was the son of the late Ludwig Huether and was born in 1854 in Albany, NY. The funeral was held from his residence on Queen St. in Hespeler on Sat., Apr. 21 at 2: 30, conducted by Rev. E. J. Fischer, pastor of St. James Lutheran Church. The members of the Fire Department attended as a body. They followed the coffin to the grave and after the service had concluded, each dropped a slip of evergreen on the grave as a mark of respect.
