Held Office of Assessor and Tax Collector for 27 Years

Never recovering from the effects of a fall which he sustained about six weeks ago, the death occurred on Thursday of Evan Kenneth McIntyre, in his 74th year. Mr. McIntyre held the positions of assessor and tax collector of this village for a period of 27 years, relinquishing these duties but recently owing to ill health. It is doubtful if any resident of the community more fully held the respect and esteem of the public generally than did Mr. McIntyre. In spite of his movements being greatly handicapped by a painful form of rheumatism, which he contracted while farming in North Dakota some 35 years ago, he always maintained a bright and cheerful outlook on life and bore his intense suffering with great fortitude. He invariably carried out his duties with strict integrity and gave general satisfaction in an office which is usually surrounded with great difficulties. He also conducted a successful insurance business for many years. Deceased was born in Puslinch Township and attended the Killean Public School. He later farmed in that district for a short time before leaving for the West. He returned to Ayr some 30 years ago, where the family had taken up residence. He was an attendant of Knox United Church. He is survived by three sisters, Mrs. William Nicoll, Misses Annie and Christina, all of Ayr. There was a large attendance at the funeral, which took place on Saturday to the Ayr Cemetery, and there were many beautiful floral tributes, including a wreath from the Corporation of Ayr. Rev. J. W. Currie, pastor of Knox United Church, had charge of the services, and the pallbearers were: James A. Dalzell, William Manson, John W. Bell, R. K. Cowan, A. G. Watson and Hugh Paterson. Out-of-town relatives who attended the obsequies included: Mr. and Mrs. G. C. Horne, Toronto; Mrs. J. A. Campbell, St. Thomas; Mrs. Walter Lillico, K. S. McLaren and Miss Kate McLaren, Drumbo.
