Notes |
- Barnett, Douglas Herbert - Passed away, peacefully, on Saturday, May 26, 2007, at Freeport Health Centre of Grand River Hospital, at the age of 83. Beloved husband of Mary (nee Nemeth) Barnett for 64 years. Loving father of Sharon Dietrich and her husband Robert of Waterloo, Doug Barnett Jr. and his wife Elfi of Glenelg Township, Gary Barnett and Dianne Stone of Kitchener and Debbie Marx and Laurie Brown, all of Waterloo. Dear grandfather of Jenny Dietrich (Ron Fixter), Christine Economides (Zeno), Kelly Barnett (Pato Soto), Tara Renon (Atillio), Jody Barnett, Jarret Marx, Lindsey Marx, Ashley Graham and Christopher Graham. Great-grandfather of Kelsey, Aiden, Lucas, Christian, Jett and Diego. Dear brother of Heddy Elliott of Michigan. Predeceased by brothers, Louis, Otto, Vernon, infant brother Harold and sisters, Elsie Koch and Ruth Wilson. Douglas Herbert Barnett left his life as he lived it - with great dignity, honour and integrity. In his youth he started up a concrete business with his father and then went on to build a partnership with his son, Doug Jr. As a local businessman, he interacted with many in the concrete industry and always remained honest and fair in his business practice. As a community member, he shared his values by teaching Sunday School at his local church and as a family member taught his children joy and a great love of life by example. During his retirement years, he and his wife, Mary spent the winter months with friends in their home in Lakeland, Florida playing golf and fishing and took time to travel. As his illness curtailed his activities, he remained cheerful in the face of adversity, showered his affection upon his grandchildren and great-grandchildren and leaves his family and friends with a lifetime of wonderful memories and happy moments. Doug's family will receive relatives and friends on Tuesday from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. at the Henry Walser Funeral Home, 507 Frederick St., Kitchener, 519-749-8467. A memorial service to celebrate Doug's life will take place at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, May 30, 2007 in the chapel of the funeral home, Pastor Joanne Peppler officiating. As expressions of sympathy donations to Freeport Health Centre (Palliative Care) or Waterloo Regional Lung Association would be appreciated by the family (cards available at the funeral home). Visit www.henrywalser.ca for Doug's memorial.
