  • Notes
    • A very enjoyable event was celebrated at the spacious farm home of Mr. and Mrs. John Ritz last Thursday when they celebrated the fiftieth anniversary of their wedding. About fifty guests were present, consisting of nearly all of the local relatives of Mr. and Mrs. Ritz and quite a number of other friends. The honored guest for the occasion was the bridesmaid of fifty years ago, Mrs. I. Betzner, of this town. The best man was Mrs. Ritz's brother, Mr. C. Pieper, who at present resides in Winnipeg, Man., Mr. A. Fraser, who was a guest at the marriage fifty years ago, was also present at this second celebration, Mr. and Mrs. Ritz received many telegrams of congratulation from their friends in the west as well as messages extending best wishes from local friends. A large wedding cake was sent to them from their son, Mr. and Mrs. John O. Ritz, of Dewet, Man.

A sumptuous dinner was served at five o'clock and the evening was enjoyable spent in games, singing and dancing.

Mr. and Mrs. John Ritz were married at New Hamburg on February 5th, 1880, by the late Rev. Chr. F. Spring, then pastor of Trinity Lutheran Church. They resided here for nine years and in 1889 moved to Manitoba where they farmed successfully until they returned with their family to their old home and purchased the two-hundred acre farm adjoining New Hamburg, known as the Moses Hostetler homestead in 1919. Mr. and Mrs. Ritz are both enjoying the best of health and it is the wish of their host of friends that they will be able in health and happiness to celebrate their diamond wedding ten years hence.
