    • STEIN, ANNA ELIZABETH (Nee Bender)

      Mrs. Scheer of Aldershot, Mr. and Mrs. Henry Stein of London and others are here to attend the funeral of their mother, Mrs. Stein. Mrs. Stein, who has lived here for the last fifty years, died on Sunday, February 19, 1905, aged 83 years and 6 months. She was born in Germany. She leaves a son and five daughters.

      -Elizabeth Bender, born in Alsfeld, Hess, Germany in 1819, married John Stein on board ship or on landing in Boston in 1840. They travelled by stagecoach by way of Buffalo, Niagara Falls and Hamilton to Morriston. Children were Henry (b. 1842) of London, married Pauline Schlegel, later Minnie Barth; Louis (b. 1845); Elizabeth (1847-1937, Mrs. Charles Scheer); Catherine (b. 1852, Mrs. August Kellerman) of Morriston, later Guelph. Second marriage to Cyrus Campbell of Newbury, Ml; Mary (1854-1938, Mrs. Johnston); Rosina (1860-1942, Mrs. William Mast) of Freeport; and Rebecca (1862-1911, Mrs. Henry Call) of Buffalo and Niagara Falls, NY.

      -Information from Our Germans Were Linked Through Puslinch Township by Chris Bowman and B. & B. Woolsey: George Heinrich Bender (b. 1799), a shoemaker from Alsfeld married Anna Maria Habermehl, who later died in Toronto. By 1861, Henry was living with his daughter Elizabeth Stein in Morriston.
