- Death Claims Edward C. Kabel
Was Old New Hamburg Boy
The death of Edward C. Kabel of Waterloo, occurred at the K.-W. Hospital early last Saturday morning following a brief illness, in his 71st year.
The deceased was born on Jan. 10, 1871, a son of Conrad and Christina Kabel, for many years residents of New Hamburg. He spent his schooldays and early youth here learning the harness making trade. At the age of 18 he went to Michigan and later to Toledo, Ohio, where he was identified with furniture manufacturing. When the Dominion Tire factory was established in Kitchener in 1914, he was appointed its first general manager and moved back to Canada.
Mr. Kabel took keen interest in the industrial life and civic affairs of Kitchener. He was a former president of the Kitchener Manufacturing Association and for several years chairman of the K.-W. Hospital Board. He also took keen interest in athletic sports. In religion he was a member of Calvary Memorial Church in Kitchener.
The late Mr. Kabel was married on July 25, 1893, to Sarah L. Lingelbach, formerly of North Easthope, who predeceased him in August, 1931. One sister, Mrs. Catharine Rieder, of Kitchener, survives him.
The funeral was held on Monday afternoon with service at the Ratz-Bechtel Funeral Home in Kitchener, conducted by Rev. G. F. Barthel, of Calvary Church. Interment followed in the Lingelbach Cemetery, west of New Hamburg.
