  • Notes
    • Pauline was a seamstress and dressmaker, a talent which she put to good use following the untimely death of her husband, a diabetic, 10 Feb 1909, which left her with three young children to raise. The shock of her husband's death must have been dreadfully compounded when her middle child, Charlie, died of scarlet fever a few days later. It was believed he got the scarlet fever from the undertaker who had just come from removing a deceased person who had succombed to the disease. There were a trips to Waterloo to visit her family, but by all accounts of her daughter, Ann Agnes, "Auntie Ann", many years later, they were infrequent and not filled with the great fun people usually recall from their youth. Pauline Alteman was George Duncan Barr's second wife. His first wife, Charlotte E. Panter, died with no issue. (Information from her daughter, Anne Agnes [Barr] Jarvis)
