Notes |
- Gregorius Meschter, "the progenitor of this numerous family, was a native of the Palatinate, Germany, where he was born about the year 1696. He was a man of great piety, of indomitable courage and energy of character, and was in possession of considerable means. The principal cause of his emigrating to America was a desire to dwell among his co-religionists, the 'Schwenkfelders', who had formed several settlements in Montgomery and other counties in Pennsylvania at a very early date. In 1734, he and his wife, Maria Krauss, emigrated to America and settled in Montgomery County, Pennsylvania, where they resided until their deaths. He died December 16th, 1775, and she died November 10th, 1756. To them was born a family of seven children, the eldest of whom was born on the Atlantic Ocean while coming to America. The rest were all born in Montgomery County, Pennsylvania."
Eby, Ezra E. (1895). A biographical history of Waterloo township and other townships of the county: being a history of the early settlers and their descendants, mostly all of Pennsylvania Dutch origin: as also much other unpublished historical information chiefly of a local character. Berlin [Kitchener, Ont.]: [s.n.].
