  • Notes
    • Family tradition says that Augusta's husband was shot in his yard in Posen, Prussia, for reasons currently unknown. She took two children and fled Prussia. The trip included a stop in England. We know they arrived in Canada in 1888, but we don't know when the flight began. It may have taken a few years. Sometime after arriving in Berlin, Ontario, Augusta and her daughter Ida continued on to the Rock Island area of Illinois and settled along the Mississippi River. William stayed in Berlin with his wife. We know William's son Ernst would visit his grandmother and aunt in Rock Island when he was a young man, and would work on the Mississippi river boats to earn enough money for the trip home. - DJA.
