  • Notes
    • WEICKER, Margaret Jean Passed away peacefully on Sunday, September 3, 2017 at Innisfree House, Kitchener. Margaret was born 89 years ago in New Hamburg, Ontario and was the daughter of the late Ralph and Jessie Thompson (MacMillan). Beloved wife of Oliver Weicker who predeceased her on November 13, 2015. Dear mother and mother-in-law of William (Bill) Weicker and friend Chloe Ying of RR1 Plattsville and Robert (Bob) and wife Amina Weicker of Vancouver, B.C. Sadly, missed by her grandchildren Jessica, Nicholas and Noah and her great-grandchild Devonte. Remembered by her sister-in-law Barbara and husband Alfred Nigul and Evelyn Thompson of Kitchener. Margaret was predeceased by her sister Christine Thompson, brothers Archie and Frederick Thompson and sister-in-law Alice Weicker. Margaret grew up on Shade Street in New Hamburg. In her early years, she worked at Goudies Department Store in Kitchener. She met Oliver at the New Hamburg fair and the rest is history. On her first date, she bought a pen of pigs with Oliver. Over the next few decades they supplied the whole town of New Hamburg with milk through Cockerton's Dairy. Margarets job was to wash all of the milk cans. They always had a showpiece farm thanks to Margaret's unique flair for design. Something that not many people know is that a highly qualified Toronto architect wanted Margaret to design for him, but mom's heart was on developing a one of a kind retirement property. This included knocking down hundreds of thorn and willow trees, building a spring fed pond, planting everyone of 2,500 trees and designing the wonder house. Oliver did the work and Margaret provided the design features. So, you see, Margaret is ready for a well-deserved rest. Hard work - Soft love. Special thanks to Coco, the CCAC director at Grand River Hospital, and all the staff at Innisfree House for your excellent care of Margaret. Also, a hearty thank you to Don Mayers, Angela Charbonneau, Rhonda Bock, Connie Becker, Wes and Janice Leis, Carl and Joyce Junker, Al and Marion Douglas, Barb and Alf Nigul, Jean Laing, Bruce Hertel and Jackie Snyder for your many stays with mom at the house during her Cancer treatments. Also to Diane Nigul for providing her house in need. The CCAC nurses and support workers also did an excellent job with Margaret and let's not forget the many visits of friends and relatives at Grand River Hospital including the McDonalds group from Ottawa Street. Family and friends will be received at the Mark Jutzi Funeral Home, 291 Huron Street, New Hamburg on Sunday, September 10, 2017 from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. A funeral service to be held on Monday at 11:00 a.m. at the Mark Jutzi Funeral Home with Pastor Andrew Mills Officiating. Interment to follow in the Chesterfield United Cemetery, Bright, Ontario. As expressions of sympathy, donations may be made to the Canadian Cancer Society, Heart & Stroke Foundation of Innisfree House.
