Notes |
- Eleanor was born on a farm situated on the Grand River about an hour's walk north of Cayuga in Haldimand County, Ontario. Her first school was at Mt. Healy, a one-room brick building. The family attended the United Church in Cayuga. She graduated from Cayuga High School, winning the athletic and academic championship awards. At seventeen she went to Business College in Waterford, afterwards working in the rural hydro office in Cayuga. It was here at Mrs. McClung's boarding house that she met Norman High, who was working as a field man for a farm organization. They married and went to Goshen while Norm finished his studies at Cornell University.Ferriss then Margaret were born. In the fall of 1947 they moved to Guelph. Three more children followed - Emily, Susan and Nancy. The family attended Wanner Mennonite Church. When Norm became Dean of Arts at University of Waterloo, the family moved to Kitchener and attended Rockway Mennonite Church. Norm died in 1974.In 1976 Eleanor married Milton Good and for the next 24 years lived at "Westwind" overlooking the Grand River. They have been attending Erb Street Mennonite Church for the past three years. The last few months were spent preparing with great anticipation a move to Waterloo, planning every detail. Eleanor entered the hospital on November 1. Unaware that she was suffering from multiple myeloma, a rare and deadly disease of the bone marrow, she lost consciousness within a day and died early Tuesday morning, November 6, with family by her side.
