- DR. DOERBECKER DIES AT HOSPITAL; ILL TWO WEEKS
Succumbs to Injuries Received Two Weeks Ago When He Was Overcome
Dr. George Doerbecker, veteran dentist, Waukegan, died Friday morning at Victory Memorial hospital, following two weeks illness resulting from poisoning of his system when he was overcome by gas at his office at 125 Washington street. Dr. Doerbecker was a man of wide acquaintanceship all over the county, having practiced dentistry more than a quarter of a century in this city.
He was born at Waterloo, Ont., Canada, 59 years ago and came here in 1885. For a number of years he commuted, working in Partridge's store in Chicago, now known as Hillman's. He then took up the study of dentistry and after graduating, put up his shingle in Waukegan.
Dr. Doerbecker is survived by a wife, one son George Jr., one brother. John Doerbecker and sister, Mrs. T. H. Hope, all of Waukegan.
When members of the Doerbecker family were quarantined several weeks ago, Dr. Doerbecker slept at the office nights. It had been his custom to telephone home daily to inquire after the family. It was a week ago Sunday that he failed to call his residence. That night members of the family became alarmed and when persons arrived at his office they found him unconscious, on a davenport and gas was streaming from an open jet.
Dr. Doerbecker was taken to Victory Memorial hospital but apparently recovered and returned to his home. However, the gas poison brought about blood poisoning, which was the direct cause of his death.
He was a member of the Masonic order and the Knights Templar were in charge of the funeral services, which were held Monday afternoon at 2 o'clock from the home. Burial in Oakwood.
