  • Notes
    • Philip Jacob Miller was the son of Jacob and Christina Miller, who came from Germany to the Buffalo, Erie County, NY area in 1840s and were converted to the Evangelical Association religion. By 1850 Jacob and Christina were in Lake County, Illinois. Philip stayed in Buffalo, NY, first as a shoemaker (1850 census), then as a minister with the Evangelical Association. He married Maria Jantz who was born in France (maybe Alsace). See "Der Christliche Botschafter" (newspaper of the Evangelical Association) obituaries in issue 3 May 1867 for death of his son Rudolph Friedrich Miller in Buffalo; in 20 Sep 1854 issue for note of his father's death; in 24 Jul 1872 issue for note of his mother's death. Philipp was in Waterloo, Canada between about 1855-1856 and maybe 1867 before his son's death. He appears on the 1870 census in Buffalo, Ward 3 and was last found by me on the 1880 census in Buffalo at 385 E. Seneca Street. He is the older brother of my 2nd great grandmother, Catherine Miller.
