The Elmira Felt Company, Limited.  Of the many standing monitors of the progress of the Village of Elmira, stands prominent the factory of the Elmira Felt Co., Limited, an engraving of which we present to our readers.  Architecturally it is a thing of beauty, and as to its adaptability for the work which is to be carried on within its walls, nothing less can be said of it.  Situated directly opposite the G. T. R. [Grand Trunk Railway] station, the factory with its lofty chimney, and many windows, impresses strangers favorably.  To the inhabitants of Elmira it is an object of pride and personal interest, since all ratepayers by virtue of their financial aid towards its erection, feel that its welfare is a matter of public moment.  This sentiment of interest and satisfaction is a source of pleasure and a great moral support to the young and ambitious managers of this splendid industry which will no doubt expand into one of the most important factories of the old substantial County of Waterloo, whose manufacturing industries bid fair to outrival its established reputation of being the banner county of the banner province of the greatest Country under British rule.  This modern, pleasing and beautiful aspect of the white brick structure, as well as the complete and economical arrangements of the interior and the perfection and adaptability of its machinery, is due to the mechanical ingenuity of Mr. Vice, whose studies of mechanical subjects and long experience as mechanical engineer and draughtsman of one of the finest felt factories in America has been turned to good account, in the design of this factory in which he has a financial as well as a professional interest.  The largest stock-holder in the Elmira Felt Co. (Limited) whose total stock amounts to $20,000, is Mr. Isaac Hilborn, a gentleman well known and highly respected, who has been a resident of Elmira and vicinity for many years.  His experience as Secretary-Treasurer of the Winger Woollen and Felt Co., has fitted him for a similar position in this company.  He is known as a careful and intelligent manager of finances and will no doubt be a valuable officer.  To Mr. A. J. Kimmel, of Berlin, who has had 15 years experience in selling and manufacturing felt goods, has been entrusted the management of the factory and the business.  His practical experience and his close connections with the shoe trade wherein he is very popular and highly respected will be of great benefit to the Elmira Felt Co., of which he is also a stockholder.  Mr. Moses, also of Berlin, a gentleman whose life-work has been the manufacture of felt, is the head of the felt making department and as upon the quality of the felt depends the utility of the shoe, his duties are amongst the most important. He is competent, careful, reliable and experienced and will prove a good acquisition to the practical workers of the company.  Mr. Chas. Wells of New York, a practical pattern maker, has been at work for weeks in designing the various lines of felt shoes, boots, etc. which are now in the process of manufacture.  Mr. Wells' ability as a designer, Mr. Kimmel's knowledge of the wants of the trade and the work of Messrs. Vice and Moses in the construction departments will produce a line of felt goods that will surpass anything yet introduced to the Canadian trade.  Financially the Company is a strong one, the principal  stockholders being men of means and business capacity.  The officers are: - President, A. H. Erb; Manager, A. J. Kimmel; Sec.-Treas., I. Hilborn; Directors, M. Weichel, J. P. Luckhardt.  The institution was sided by a bonus of $5,000, an investment which is already giving good return.  The Company will employ about 40 to 50 hands in the beginning, and these will need dwelling accommodation.  Already a number of houses are being built, by enterprising citizens and more are imperatively demanded.  As industry is the fountain head of property our village may be, and is proud of the works of the Elmira Felt Co. (Limited) and its prospects.  If good wishes have anything to do with the success of an institution, this company will surely prosper.1a
