- A-2-163 Adam Meckel The Last Will and Testament of Adam Meckel, late of the Town of Berlin, Well Digger, who died on or about the eighth day of July 1862, at the Town of Berlin, and who at the time of his death had a fixed place of abode at Berlin, was proved and registered in the said Surrogate Court, a true copy of which said Last Will and Testament is hereunder written and that the administration of all and singular the personal estate and effects, rights and credits of the said deceased and any way concerning his will was granted by the aforesaid Court to Joseph Spetz of the Township of Waterloo, Yeoman, and Daniel O'Donnell of the Town of Berlin, Merchant, the Executors named in the said will…
…In the name of God Amen. I, Adam Mickel of the Town of Berlin, of the age of 39th years, being of sound mind and memory and considering the uncertainty of this frail and transitory life do therefore make, ordain, publish and declare this to be my Last Will and Testament, that is to say, (First) after all my lawful debts are paid and discharged the residue of my estate, real and personal, I give, bequeath and dispose of as follows, to wit : (1) to my beloved wife Margaret Mechel, a born Meckler. (II) to my children, Margaret Mechel, Mary Mechel, Regina Mechel and Catharine Mechel. (III) to my Step and adopted children George Blesh and Joseph Blesh under conditions as follows namely : To my beloved wife Margaret Meckel born Meckler the land consisting of one acre within the Town of Berlin and of seven acres without the Town of Berlin in ward No 4 in the Township of Waterloo, as also all other moveable and immoveable property during the term of her natural life to enable her to rear the children decently and conveniently. After her death and no sooner, all the property shall be sold and the product shall be put on interest by undermentioned Executors till the youngest living child shall have attained the 21st year or entered the state of matrimony when the whole sum shall be equally distributed amonst my own as well as among my adopted children they shall only share in this inheritance provided that they will support my wife remain with her or aid her by their contributions to bring up the junior children until the (the adopted children) shall have attained their 21st year of age. Should any of the above mentioned children die before attaining the 21st year of before having entered the state of matrimony then shall the yet surviving children equally share his part of the inheritance. Likewise, I make, constitute and appoint Messers Joseph Spetz, Yeoman, of the Township of Waterloo, and Daniel O'Donnell, Grocer, of the town of Berlin, to be Executors of this my Last Will and Testament, giving them at the same time the power of conveying deed or deeds as the case may be.
