  • Notes
    • WEBER, Marjorie Louise (nee McDonald) - Passed away peacefully, on Tuesday, January 13, 2009, at Freeport Health Centre, in her 91st year. Marjorie and Bruce Weber were married in Kingsway United Church in Toronto in 1940. When Marjorie came to Kitchener she joined her husband's church, Trinity United. She started teaching Sunday School and playing the piano and as the years rolled by, joined the Women's Group, helped with the bazaars, bake sales and "opportunity" sales. Mrs. Hatten led a group of "Trinity Players" and put on plays including some dramas, especially at Christmas and Easter. Mrs. Hatten also did comedies and Marjorie always helped with costumes or acting in the plays. Marjorie also volunteered in the wider community. For example, she was a "pink lady" volunteer at the old K.W. Hospital, now Grand River Hospital. She belonged to the Y.W.C.A. and its Mary's Place where women in distress came for safety day or night. Recently she was awarded a lovely silver angel for 20 years of helping Mary's Place. Bruce died in 1999 and after two years on her own, Marjorie decided to move to Terrace on the Square in Waterloo. How she enjoyed her life there! She especially loved the staff. She found all of them polite and kind and caring at all times. Pastor John came regularly to meet both religious needs and intellectual needs with his delightful programs - "in the news", "horse racing" and discussion of world religions. Humour and music, especially music, were important to Marjorie. She was an accomplished pianist and had an ear for music which enabled her to hear a new melody and play it as if she had the full score in front of her. Around her music she built a lot of humour as she loved acting. "All the world is a stage..." could have been written with Marjorie in mind. Marjorie adored her two daughters, Diane and Linda; her three precious grandchildren, Lori, Steven and Jennifer; and her seven lively great-grandchildren. She also leaves her sister, Pat Reynolds, of Toronto. A memorial service celebrating Marjorie's life will be held on what would have been Marjorie and Bruce's 69th wedding anniversary, Tuesday, January 20, 2009, at 11 a.m. at the Ratz-Bechtel Funeral Home , 621 King St. W. A Reception will follow at the Ratz-Bechtel Family Centre. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Trinity United Church, 74 Frederick St., Kitchener, Ont. N2H 2L7.
