  " 'This is to certify that William Waldie and his wife Isabel Crozier, natives of the parish of Yarrow County of Selkirk, North Britain -- have resided in my neighborhood since their birth, that they are most respectable, honest, and industrious people and being now on the point of immigration, I wish to recommend them particularly to the protection and assistance of the well desposed during their passage from here to Upper Canada. Given under my hand and seal at Thirlstane County of Selkirk this 4th day of May, 1831. Mapier J. P. ' This is a copy of the original letter sent with the Waldies when they came to Canada in 1831.
