- DIED AT THE POOR HOUSE
An Inmate of That Institution for Nearly a Quarter of a Century
Visitors at the county House of Refuge, at Berlin, for many years past will remember Miss Deans, a neat, clean, refined old lady, who occupied one of the rooms and though usually busily knitting, was always ready for a chat. She was personally known to many from this neighborhood, who, whenever occasion called them to visit the house, were always sure to enquire for Miss Deans. Those who knew her, will regret to hear of her death, which took place on Thursday evening, from old age, she being in her 84th year. The body was taken to Galt by train, on Saturday and interred in Mt. View cemetery. Many old friends attended the funeral, which took place from the Grand Trunk station. Rev. Dr. Dickson conducted the services. Miss Catherine Deans was a sister of Mr. James Deans, now of Galt, but formerly of North Dumfries, and the late Walter Deans, of Galt. She has been an inmate of the House of Refuge, for 24 years. Her relatives, especially her brothers, were always kind and good to her and she was at any time, welcome to a home with any of them.
