- ALSON M. WEBER 1910 - 2005 On Thursday, December 29, 2005, Alson died peacefully, at Parkwood Mennonite Home in Waterloo, after a long and rich life, filled with a grateful and inclusive attitude. He was in his 96th year. Alson will be remembered as a loving role model by his family. Dear father of John and Donna Weber of Kitchener, Jim and Brenda Weber of Kitchener, Ross and Carol Weber of Waterloo and John and Betty Butterfield of Las Vegas, NV. He will be fondly remembered with respect and admiration by his grandchildren, Debbie, David and Roseanne, John-Michael and Tania, Mark and Sheri, Linda and Chris, Sara, Brad, Nic, Ben and Lana and Ross and his great-grandchildren, Tyler, Jared, Katelyn, Isaac, Kathryn and Erika. Brother of John and Elinore of Winnipeg, brother-in-law of Gladys Weber of Vernon, B.C. and dear friend Hulda Stewart of Kitchener. He was predeceased by his wife Loraine (Snyder) November 29, 1988, parents Magdalena and Irvin B. Weber, sister Eileen and brother Norman. For over 75 years, Alson was a faithful and active member of Stirling Avenue Mennonite Church. He was an employee and owner of Superior Stone Co., now Superior Memorials, from 1928 until his retirement in 1973. He managed and played for the K-W YMCA volleyball team that won the Canadian Senior Men's Volleyball championship for 15 consecutive years, from 1932 to 1946. He was a founding board member of both Conrad Grebel University College, Waterloo and Eastwood Community, Kitchener. Friends are invited to share their memories of Alson with his family at the Edward R. Good Funeral Home, 171 King Street South, Waterloo, on New Year's Day, Sunday, January 1, 2006, from 2-4 p.m. and Monday from 2-4 p.m. and 7-9 p.m. The service to celebrate Alson's life and faith will be held at Stirling Avenue Mennonite Church, 57 Stirling Avenue North, Kitchener, on Tuesday, January 3, 2006, at 11 a.m., with Rev. Marilyn Rudy-Froese and Rev. Kevin Peters Unrau officiating. Following the funeral service, friends and relatives are invited to remain at Stirling Avenue Mennonite Church for lunch and a time to visit with the family. The committal service will follow at Parkview Cemetery, Waterloo. In memory of Alson, donations to the Multiple Sclerosis Society-Waterloo Region Chapter, Send'em Off Smiling, or Kitchener Minor Hockey Sponsored Children would be appreciated as expressions of sympathy and can be arranged through the funeral home. The family wishes to thank the staff of Parkwood Mennonite Home, Winston Park Village and Freeport Health Centre for their kindness to Alson.
