RITZ, Betty After a lengthy journey with ill health, Betty Ritz passed away peacefully Saturday afternoon, June 2, 2012, at her home surrounded by her family, at the age of 86. She is survived by her husband Ernst (Ernie) Ritz, whom she married 66 years ago; sons Bill (Kathryn) and John (Betty), two grandsons, Joe and Jake (fiancée Kate Bottoms); granddaughters Stacey (Scott Neigh) and Marcia; step-grandsons Brock Dixon (Sharon) and Travis Dixon; great-grandson Liam Ritz-Neigh and step-great-grandson Braylon Dixon; brother, Jim (Gywinith) Murray; sister-in-law Betty Murray; six nephews Rick (Janice) Ritz; Steve (Mary Lou) Murray, Rob (Carol) Murray, Tom Murray, David (Annamarie) Murray, Mark (Kimberly) Murray; seven nieces Pam Ritz, Judy Seyler, Bonnie Ritz (Mark), Jane Murray, Ann (Jamie) Patton, Susan Lantz, and Lynn (John) Leduc; and many grandnephews and grand-nieces. Predeceased by her parents, William E. G. Murray and his wife Dora, neé Quehl; sisters Jean (Eugene) Hofstetter, Christine (Dick) Ritz, brother Bob Murray and grand-daughter Jean Ritz. Also lovingly remembered by Shirley Unrau, Gladys Kropf, Patricia Kropf, Marie and Greg Voisin, and Dianne Ritz. Betty was a life-long resident of New Hamburg and was well known as the founder of The Stationery Store (now Office Pro). Prior to that she was cashier at the family business then known as Murray's Food Market for over thirty years, where she made a large number of friends and acquaintances. Her generosity, love of people, and concern for others endeared her to all. She served as a President and a Life Member of the former New Hamburg Women's Institute. After her retirement in 1991 she became ill and underwent a liver transplant June 3, 1993; the Ritz family is eternally grateful to the donor's family, whose generosity gave them an additional 19 cherished years with Betty. On recovery she became a fund raiser for University Hospital, London, and a devoted advocate of organ donation. For some years she was a volunteer at the MCC Thrift Shop and also at Seniors' programs at Nithview Home. She was a recipient of the Wilmot Citizen of the Year Award in 2002. She was active for years in the ELW of Trinity Lutheran Church and also in the provision of food and refreshments at funeral services. In accordance with her wishes, cremation has taken place. Visitation at the Mark Jutzi Funeral Home, 291 Huron Street, New Hamburg on Tuesday, June 5th from 7 to 9 p.m., and on Wednesday, June 6th from 2-4 p.m. and 7-9 p.m. A memorial service to celebrate Betty's life will take place on Saturday, June 23, 2012 at 10 a.m. at Trinity Lutheran Church, New Hamburg, with Pastor Andre Lavergne and Pastor Anne Anderson officiating. As an expression of sympathy, donations may be made to the Canadian Liver Foundation, the Music Scholarship Fund of Trinity Lutheran Church, Canadian Lutheran World Relief, or a charity of your choice.
