    • Twin Brothers did everything together by Scot Ferguson

From the time they were born in the Galt Hospital on July 25, 1923, Robert and Andrew Mosser were inseparable. They played six-man rugby at the Preston High School and were ends on the team which won The W.O.S.S.A. championship. They joined the Boy Scouts in 1935, and in 1940 were both elevated to the rank of King's Scouts. Robert was a Cub leader and Andrew an Assistant Scoutmaster. They were founding members of the Preston Scout House' Bugle Band and both sang in the choir of the Preston United Church. They not only looked alike, they acted the same. Even their best friends had a difficult time telling them apart. Andrew and Robert were sworn in at the Toronto depot of the R.C.A.F. They had planned to go to university in the fall, but made the unanimous decision to join the R.C.A.F.On March 20th, 1943 the Globe and Mail reported "In the first ceremony of its kind ever held in Canada, Robert and Andrew Mosser of Preston were awarded navigators' wings at a 'twin' presentation." The brothers were together until the end. They were both Killed in Action on April 22, 1943. They were 19 years old.

      Lest We Forget

      __________

      GALT REPORTER
      JAN. 15. 1944.

      DIED ON ACTIVE SERVICE. -
Word that their twin sons, Pilot Officers Robert William and Andrew James Mosser, are now for official purposes presumed to have died on active service on April 22, 1943, has been received by their parents, Mr. and Mrs. Andrew Mosser, Preston.

The letter from the department of national defence for air, Ot tawa, received by Mr. and Mrs. Mosser last evening, read: "I have learned with deep regret that your two sons, PO. Robert William and PO. Andrew James, are now for official purposes presumed to have died on active service on April 22, 1943.

"I would like you to know that my heartfelt sympathy goes out to you in your great loss. I trust you will be granted fortitude and strength equal to your great burden. When men offer their lives for a cause which is greater than life itself, nothing more could inspire us to higher thoughts and greater deeds," the letter concludes.

First word that their sons were "missing as a result of enemy action at sea," was received by Mr. and Mrs. Mosser on May 5 last year. The well known officers, identical twins, received their wings at No. 4 A.O.S., London, Ontario, on March 19 last year, and were given immediate promotion for high standing in their graduating class. They were attending Preston high school when they enlisted, suspending their studies there to proceed to university. It is presumed that they were on a ship which was torpedoed while on the way overseas. A brother, Captain (Dr.) H. A. Mosser, is on active service in Canada.
