    • SCHILDROTH, Lester John - November 1, 1915 to November 7, 2006. Died peacefully, at St. Mary's Hospital, Kitchener, at the age of 91. Lester was a popular, outgoing and generous person. He was noted for his sense of humour, his loyalty to people and his commitment to his family, church and community. Lester married Margaret Mae Binkle in 1941, and they were devoted to one another for 65 years, until the time of his death. He is also survived by his sister. Eileen (Lorne) Schweitzer; brother. Donald (Collette) of Victoria, B. C. ; daughter, Leslie (Brian) Gould; son, Stephen and daughter-in-law, Lynn Rubinstein, as well as sisters-in-law, Lea Binkle (nee Charleston) and Evelyn Brown (nee Schweitzer). Lester is the beloved grandfather of David (Melissa) Gould, Jennifer (David) Stubbs (nee Gould) and Deborah, Andrew and Eric Schildroth. He is predeceased by his father, William Christian Schildroth; mother, Alberta May (nee Hesse); sister, Winnifred Kropp and son, John William Schildroth, partner of Carolyn Epp. Born in 1915 on a farm in North Easthope Township in Perth County, Lester spent his early years on the farm and had his primary education in New Hamburg. His family moved to Kitchener when he was twelve. Lester attended Kitchener and Waterloo Collegiate Institute where he graduated with a Diploma in Accountancy in 1932. In 1934, Lester took a position at Brodey-Draimin Furriers in downtown Kitchener. He started his employment delivering fur coats on a bicycle, and over the course of time became a senior salesman. He continued working for Brodey-Draimin for 55 years, until his retirement in 1989. During the Second World War, Lester served as a member of the 24th Field Ambulance Reserve based in Kitchener. A lifetime active member of Zion United Church, Lester served in many capacities. Lester acted as an Elder, served on the Presbytery Council and was a member of the Finance Committee, as well as many other volunteer capacities. For over 40 years, Lester was an enthusiastic member of the Kitchener-Waterloo Sales and Advertising Club. He served on many committees and was a director of the Club in the 1960s. Long before anyone used the term "environment", Lester taught his children and grandchildren to care for the planet Earth. He loved camping, hiking and fishing throughout Southern Ontario. He always had deep sympathy and compassion for those who were less fortunate and was a generous contributor of his time and financial resources for the benefit of others in need. Lester participated in numerous charitable activities including fund-raising for the K-W Federated Appeal (now the United Way). Lester was an exceptional husband, father and grandfather. He will be sorely missed by his family as well as many others in the community.
