    • Obituary of Patricia Legault (1928 - 2012)

      Passed away on Sunday, October 28, 2012 at Lisaard House in Cambridge, age 84. Pat was one of six children of the late Emile and Agnes Legault of Ottawa.

      Predeceased by sisters Margaret, Emilia and Emilia's husband Jack Smith, and brother Paul.

      Pat is lovingly remembered by two brothers, Jim (Faith) Legault of Ottawa, Ontario and Wilfred (Grace) Legault of Sherwood Park, Alberta. Survived by eight wonderful nieces and nephews and their families: Jill (Larry) Milks, Andrew of Ottawa; Jan Legault of Sechelt, B.C., Mark (Mojgan) Legault, Sarah of Ottawa; Anne (Ron) Domitrovits, Devan, Stefanie of Ottawa; John (Meredith) Legault of London, Ontario, Donald (Angie) Legault, Ashley and Scott of Sechelt, B.C., Ryan Legault-McGill of Ottawa; Bruce (Terry) Legault, Brittany and Brendon of Sherwood Park, and Susan (Doug) of Coquitlam, B.C..

      She was a special "adopted" Aunt and Great Aunt in two families and will be sorely missed by Mark (Tanya) O'Leavey, Alexander of Portland, Oregon; and Yippy Novotny of Toronto, her children and grandchildren; Christopher (Kristen) Johannesen, Kate, Luke and Matthew of Los Angeles, California; Benjamin Johannesen (Cathy) of Toronto; and Jennifer Johannesen (Carsten), Owen and Angus Turney; as well as Michael (Alison) and Justin Turney of Toronto.

      Pat was born in Hull, Quebec, grew up in Ottawa and lived in British Columbia and Alberta before making her home in Waterloo/Wellington Counties. She graduated from the Ottawa Civic Hospital School of Nursing (Reg.N 1951) and from Queen's University, Kingston, Ontario (B.ScN, B.A. M.Ed). Pat had a long and distinguished career in nursing practice and nursing education, as practitioner, supervisor of newborn nursery (University of Alberta Hospital, Edmonton) and nursing educator in Kitchener, Ontario. Pat retired as Chair of Nursing, Conestoga College, Kitchener, after 19 years of service. She was a Founding Director of the Woolwich Community Health Centre in St. Jacobs, Ontario and the Midwifery Clinic, also in St. Jacob's. Pat was one of thirteen people selected from across Ontario to create the Ontario College of Midwifery. In 1996 Pat was awarded the Ontario Medal for Good Citizenship by the Government of Ontario for her contribution to healthcare in Waterloo County. As a long term resident of Puslinch Lake, Cambridge, Ontario, Pat had been a strong supporter of the Puslinch Lake restoration.

      The family would like to thank the many friends, caregivers and neighbours for their kindness, support and time spent with Pat. Most sincere appreciation goes out to the team of personal support workers from ParaMed who provided special care and companionship to Pat.

      The family also wishes to express its deepest appreciation to everyone at the Lisaard House Hospice for their compassionate care as well as to the health care team in the Surgical Day Care Unit and the Oncology Unit at the Cambridge Memorial Hospital.

      A celebration of life and reception will be held on Thursday, November 1, 2012 from 6-8 p.m. in the Fireside Reception Room of the Erb & Good Family Funeral Home, 171 King Street S., Waterloo, Ontario. Cremation has taken place. A private family interment will be held at the Beechwood Cemetery in Ottawa.
