- KOEHLER, Harold - Peacefully, with his family by his side, at K-W Health Centre of Grand River Hospital on Saturday, August 12, 2006 at the age of 87. Predeceased by his wife, Ruth. Father of Pat Donner and her husband Peter, Peggy Wrightson and son-in-law Wayne. Grandfather of Kirk (Lesley), Mark (Karen), Troy (Melissa), Tricia (Richard), Leah (Corey). Great-grandfather of Kiefer, Spencer, Benjamin, Lauren, Simon and Gavin. Brother of Doris (Bill), Melva and Bill (Dorothy). Also predeceased by sisters, Irene and Jean and brother, Lloyd. Harold was born in Kitchener in 1919. He was a sergeant in the Canadian Armed Forces during the Second World War where he met his wife, Ruth. Harold had an adventurous spirit and love of fast cars, motorcycles, planes and music. He was a bush pilot for many years in the Canadian north and a test pilot for Avian's Gyroplane. He was an early member of the Blue Diamond Motorcycle Club and the Waterloo Wellington Flying Club. He raced motorcycles and stock cars at Bridgeport Speedway. Following his flying career, he joined the Musician's Union and played accordion at the Blue Moon in Petersburg and other local hotels. After retirement, he spent summers sailing on Georgian Bay and at his trailer in Sauble Beach and winters in Garden City, South Carolina. Cremation has taken place. A reception for family and friends will be held at the Ratz-Bechtel Family Centre, 621 King St. W., Kitchener (519-745-9495) on Monday, August 21, 2006 from 3-6 p.m. Donation's in Harold's memory may be made to the hospital of your choice.
