- VILA, John A. (Jack) MBE - In hospital in Kitchener on April 10, 2008, in his 98th year. Beloved and loving husband of the late Madeleine Bertrand Vila for over 65 years. Dear father of John B. Vila of Ottawa and Susan Lawley of London. Also survived by his dear grandchildren, Christine Neilson (Scott), Jennifer Vila and Michael Vila (Natalie), Michelle Tucker (Jeff) and Christopher Lawley; seven great-grandchildren and thirteen nieces and nephews. Predeceased by his brothers, Harry and Alan. After distinguished service with the RCAF during the Second World War, for which he was awarded membership in the Order of the British Empire, Jack began his long-term employment with the Economical Insurance Group and culminated his career as its President from 1971 to 1978. He was also actively involved in several professional and charitable organizations including Rotary, Gyro, Probus, and Sunbeam Lodge. Family and friends will be received at Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church, 173 Lourdes Street, Waterloo on April 19, 2008 at 9: 30 a.m. before the funeral at 10: 30 a.m. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Heart and Stroke Foundation. Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to the Erb & Good Family Funeral Home, Waterloo, 519-745-8445.
