Didsbury Pioneer Passes Away
In the passing of Grandma Cressman, who died at her home on Friday, May 13th, Didsbury lost one of the oldest pioneers. Mrs. Cressman had been ailing for about a year and in January she suffered a stroke from which she never recovered.
Mrs. Cressman came here with her family in 1899 when the district was just opening up for settlement and lived to see the district developed from the raw prairie to a prosperous farming district.
Angeline Bingeman Cressman was born Aug. 6, 1852 in Oxford county, near the village of Washington, Ont., and died May 13th, 1932, aged 79 years, 9 months, 7 days.
Angeline Bingeman was married to Samuel C. Cressman on Sept. 13th, 1873. This union was blessed with twelve children.
Mr. and Mrs. Cressman and family moved to Alberta in 1899 and have resided here ever since.
She leaves to mourn her loss four daughters, Mrs. Allan Hunsperger, Didsbury; Mrs. J.W. Ryckman, Bellingham; Mrs. R.D. Curdy, Drumheller; Miss Zellah Cressman, Didsbury; six sons, Milo, of Staveley; Morgan, Didsbury; Bruce of Raven; Douglas of Delia and Bert of Didsbury; also 33 grandchildren and 9 great grandchildren. Her husband, a daughter and a son predeceased her.
The funeral services were held at the M.B.C. Church on Sunday and was very largely attended. Rev. V.K. Snyder conducted the services assisted by Rev. H. Harder. The pall bearers, who were all oldtimers, were Messrs. Theo. Reist, Amos Weber, Norman Snyder, Norman Buschart, Elah Shantz, and Ben Rosenberger.
All Mrs. Cressman's children, except Mrs. Ryckman, were able to be present at the funeral. The other relatives from outside points who attended were: Mrs. C. Bell and children and Wilfred Curdy, of Drumheller; Gerald Curdy, Claude Cressman, Alice Cressman, Ednid and Allen Knoepfli, of Calgary; Miss Verda Cressman, Stavely; Howard Herber, Raven, and Mrs. Alex McInnis of Trochu.
