    • EDWIN JOHN LELAND November 19,1928 - June 9, 2009 Ed passed away peacefully, on Tuesday, June 9, 2009, at St. Mary's Hospital, Kitchener, at 80 years of age. He endured his illnesses during the past 2 years with courage and gentle patience. Ed, the grandson of an early pioneer family, was born at Weldon, Sask. (near Prince Albert) and spent his early years on the family farm. Although he and his older brother planned to farm together at the end of the Second World War, this hope was painfully shattered for Ed when Kenneth, serving in the army, was killed in battle. After some travels about Canada, Ed decided in 1948 to join the Royal Canadian Air Force and, ever mindful of his brother, served his country during the Korean war. He met Doris Ellerker while he was stationed in London Ontario. They married at the bride's home in Forest, Ontario in April, 1952, and made their home together that year in Saskatoon where Ed was stationed until taking his discharge at the war's end. They were blessed with two sons, Reg and Jerry. After military service Ed worked as territory sales manager for Coleman and Shell Oil, as well as managing Firestone stores at Moose Jaw and Weyburn. His work took him into 3 provinces, Ontario, Saskatchewan, and British Columbia. At retirement he continued service with the Corp of Commissionaires, and was happy to serve in Saskatchewan with the RCMP, Regina Provost, from 1986 to 1992. He and Doris moved to Sarnia, and then in 1993 to Forest Ontario, where they lived in retirement until September 2007. They moved then to Kitchener to enjoy living closer to their family. Throughout the years Ed was a faithful member of the Anglican church. He was particularly fond of the years spent at St. Timothy's (Saskatoon), St. Mary's (Regina) and the Church of the Holy Saviour (Waterloo). Ed enjoyed hockey and faithfully coached and took his sons to practices and games while they were growing up. He was a genuinely fine family man, who cherished the ties of kindred. Throughout his life he was truly a good man, a gentleman. He will be sorely missed. He leaves to mourn his loving wife of 57 years, Doris; two sons, Reg and his wife Paula of Kitchener, and Jerry of Apsley; grandchildren, Joanne, Bernadette, Matthew (Kitchener), Joe (Apsley), Jason (Norwood); his brother, Verne (Sylvia) of Weldon Saskatchewan; his nephews, Dennis (Norma) of Calgary, Kim (Ann) of Stoney Plain, Alberta and nieces Norma Walso (Weldon), Lori Morris (Gary) (Grasswood Sask.) and Tami Johnson (Mark) (Saskatoon). He was predeceased by his brother, Kenneth and sisters, Violet, Gladys and Alice and parents, John and Isabella Leland. Visitation to be held at the Erb & Good Family Funeral Home, 171 King St. S., Waterloo on Thursday June 11, from 7-9 p.m. The Funeral Service will take place on Friday, June 12, 2009 at 11 a.m. at the Church of the Holy Saviour (53 Allen St. E., Waterloo) with The Venerable Peter T. Townshend officiating. Interment will be at Beechwood Cemetery, Forest, Ontario after the funeral service. Donations in Ed's memory can be made through the funeral home 519-745-8445 or www.erbgood.com to the charity of one's choice, the Alzheimer's Society, Heritage House, St. Jacobs or the Church of the Holy Saviour, Waterloo. The Family extends sincere thanks to the Alzheimer Society of Canada, Heritage House, St. Mary's Hospital, the Church of the Holy Saviour, and all others who gave such kindly care to Ed.
