- HICKS, Dorance Miller - Passed away peacefully on Wednesday, February 4, 2009, at Sunnyside Home at the age of 83 years. Beloved husband of the late Margaret (nee Arthrell) Hicks (August 2, 2005). Dear father of Miller Hicks of Waterloo and Douglas Hicks and his wife Lou-Ann of Fonthill. Dear grandfather to Brett, Lisa, Kevin, Carly and great-grandfather to Andrew, Ethan and Lauren. Survived by sisters, Elizabeth, Lillian and Vera. Predeceased by his parents, Heber and Lillian Hicks; sisters, Jennie Mae, Lena, Margaretta, and brothers, William, Elmer, Cleary, Edward, Leonard, Alfred and Sterling. Dorance is a veteran of the Second World War and served with the Royal Regiment, Toronto. He spent Christmas 1943 in hospital in Belgium. He was a member of the Royal Canadian Legion Branch 24, St. Catharines. Dorance was also a Mason and Shriner with Seymour Lodge No. 277. Dorance's passion was fishing and boating in Bobcaygeon with family and friends. Cremation has taken place. Dorance will be interred in the veterans section of Victoria Lawn Cemetery, St. Catharines.
