      ___________________

Mr. Brooks came to Galt about 30 years ago, and since that time has steadily pursued his avocation in our midst. He was born in slavery in Fredericksburg, Va., but bought his freedom at an early date. He was well known as an honest, conscientious man; and acquired considerable property by steady labor. Dying intestate his property will revert to the Crown.
