Notes |
- Mr. and Mrs, Ernest Plumtree live up the back road, now named Tilt Drive, on the Stauffer-Cassel-Kummer- Howell farm, with their son Charles and his family. They planned to celebrate their golden wedding by having "open house" with all the trimmings; but Mrs. Plumtree was stricken with a stroke which put an end to their plans. Instead Mr. Plumtree went down to the South Waterloo Hospital and spent the day with his wife. Mrs. Plumt was a patient for some time and returned home and enjoyed life for a while longer. She died in 1960. She was born in Chestershire, England, moving to Wales when quite young. She was married on Feb.5th 1909 from her parent's home in Wroxham, Wales at the Calvanistic Presbyterian Church. They made their home in Bolton, England before coming to Canada. Mr. Plumtree was born in Derbyshire, England moving to Burton-on-Trent, when three years old. They came to Canada in 1913. Mr. Plumtree has sold produce on the Galt market since 1922. Beside their son Charles in Doon, there are two daughters, Mrs. George Keachie, of Ayr and Mrs. Alice Britton of Galt. Before moving to Doon Mr. and Mrs. Plumtree resided in Creiff. In 1970 Charles Plumtree sold his farm and bought a much larger farm between Washington and Bright. His father is still making his home with Charles.
