    • WATKINSON, Alice - Mrs. Alice Lorraine Watkinson, age 89, of Brunswick Street, Stratford, passed away peacefully, at the Stratford General Hospital, on Wednesday, December 1, 2004. Fourth Generation of Michael Wilhelm and Margaret Wettlaufer who emigrated from Germany to Canada in 1837 and settled on a farm in Wilmot Township in Waterloo County. Alice was born in North Easthope Township, daughter of the late Jack Paff and the former Lydia Herlich. She lived all her life in Stratford and area and was active in local, provincial and national politics. Alice enjoyed her family history, reading, gardening, cooking and sewing. Beloved wife of the late Robert Watkinson whom she married June 3, 1939 and who predeceased her April 15, 1979. Loving mother of Shirley and Lorne Leasa of Gadshill, Frederick and Sheila Watkinson and family of Louisa, Virginia, USA, Linda Ironside of Vancouver, BC and Susan Horne and Al Mackie and family of Mount Albert, Ontario. Dear grandmother of Shawn and Star Leasa of Stratford, Cheryl Bierschbach of Kitchener and Ryan Home of London. Great-grandmother of Matthew Leasa and Tyler Leasa. Also survived by her sisters Merle Jones of Kitchener, Elizabeth (Betty) Winkler of Kitchener and Helen Warris of Stratford and by several nieces and nephews and many cousins. Besides her parents and husband she was predeceased by brothers-in-law Paul Jones, Paul Winkler, Russell Warris, John Watkinson and Percy Lingard; and by sisters-in-law Rachel Watkinson, Frances Watkinson and Eliza (Watkinson) Lingard; and by a son-in-law Eric Horne. Friends and relatives may call at the W.G. Young Funeral Home, 430 I Huron Street, Stratford on Sunday, December 5 from 2-4 p.m. and on Monday from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. The funeral service will be held at Parkview United Church on Tuesday at 11 a.m. Rev. Gary Clark will officiate. Interment will be in South Easthope Cemetery. As expressions of sympathy, memorial donations may be made to the Multiple Sclerosis Society or to the charity of one's choice through the funeral home.
