Notes |
- Jesse W. Thornton, was born in Galt, Ontario, Nov. 18, 1826. and died in Enterprise, Linn county, Mo., June 16, 1887. Mr. Thornton was married to Miss Margaret Gorman, May 5, 1843. He was converted and joined the Methodist Church in 1852. Moved to Wisconsin in 1853, and came to Missouri in March, 1868, settling on the beautiful farm where he lived and died.
He Ieaves to his widow and children the heritage of a good name and a Godly example.
His funeral was very largely attended. The services were held under the shade of the trees, himself had planted. It was an occasion of solemnity: and poignant sorrow, but there .was nothing of gloom. The text used was the words of the Master: - "I am the way."
Mr. Thornton was well known to many citizens of Warren and vicinity, having lived in Wayne, Wis., for hearty thirty years. He was one of the carpenters that helped to build the old Burnett home in the early days, of the town. Mrs. Joseph Sherk, sr., anti Mrs. Chas. Sheard, both of this place, are his sisters, and Mrs. Ben, Woodworth, near town, is his neice."'97Enterprise (Mo.) Exehange
