Notes |
- Strome, Irene May Leona (Bacher) January 5, 1912 - December 10, 2007
Irene Bacher Strome was born January 5, 1912 in Berlin (Kitchener), Ont. After the death of her mother, Lillian Schneider, in 1914, she and her sisters were raised by their grandparents, Catherine and Henry Schneider, in Fisherville, ON. When she was 13 years old, she moved back to Kitchener to live with her father, William Bacher and her stepmother, Bertha Ebert Bacher. She met her future husband, Wilmer Strome, at her church. With a smile, she told us that's why she joined the church choir.
Irene wanted her obituary to be short and to the point. This is what she said: I lived a good life and I died. I had a wonderful family and that was what my life was all about. I was good at washing dishes and cleaning the floor. ? She also made the most delicious chocolate chip cookies and rum balls!
Our memories of her are filled with warmth and love. She was kind and generous in spirit and was always happy with her lot in life, rarely complaining. She was devoted to her church, first at St. Paul's (Historic) Lutheran and then as a charter member of Holy Cross Lutheran. She enjoyed family , friends, the cottage at Belwood Lake and Bridge Club. She kept her sense of humour right to the end and she has left us with many fond and happy memories.
Irene was predeceased by Wilmer (1991), her husband of 51 years, and her sisters Charlotte Shriber (1998), Elsie Hipel (1998) and Erma Scoffield Dobrindt (2007) and their husbands.
She is survived by her children: sons Steve (Wendy Drew), Kelly (Terry), and George and her daughter Cathy (Howard Stone); her grandchildren: Jamie Strome (Debbie), Tammy Strome (Clarence Hofstee), Chris Strome (fianc? Tami Gabay), Heather Strome (fianc? Mark Sutton), Stacey Stone, Travis Stone and Taylor Stone; and her great-grandchildren: Tasha, Skyler, Mathew and Tristan.
Special thanks to the staff at Lanark Place Retirement Residence for their kindness and special care and support. Irene always said ?It's such a wonderful place. I hope when you are my age, you can stay in a place as wonderful as this one.? She enjoyed the many activities and the cookies!
Irene's family will receive relatives and friends on Wednesday from 7-9 PM at the Henry Walser Funeral Home, 507 Frederick St., Kitchener 519-749-8467 and 10-10: 50 AM on Thursday at Holy Cross Church.
