  Diary entries by Mary Schwartzentruber (Mrs. Jacob L. Wagler) Re John Roes, her son-in-law's injury and death. 1940 September 30, Mon. Washed. I was at Davy Gascho's for a call. Johnnie got his foot hurt with the trailer. 3 toes badly hurt. October 1, Tues. Walked to Johnnie's to see how they are. he is in bed. had bad pain thru the night. is some easier today. very nice [weather] October 6, Sun. Noah took me to church and came for me again took me to Johnnie's for dinner. after chores Noah's came for me. Johnnie's foot some better October 8, Tues. Went to Johnnie's stayed till Fri. morning October 9, Wed. At Johnnie's piled wood. John Burke took them to Milverton to see the doctor. October 11, Fri. I went home in the morning. went back to Johnnie's again he was not well took a bad spell toward evening October 12, Sat. Johnnie died at about 2 o'clock in the afternoon had convulsions October 13, Sun. Many people in to see Johnnies October 14, Mon. Got ready for the funeral at Noah's October 15, Tues.
