    • HACHBORN, Jean Marie (née Brown) Jean Hachborn of St. Jacobs, Ontario passed away peacefully on Decembe r 26, 2014, in her 91st year at Grand River Hospital, Kitchener, surrounded by her family. Jean was born in Mitchell, Ontario on August 2, 1924 to Gladys (née Hahn) and William Brown, the third of nine children, and grew up in Mitchell, Fergus and Elmira, Ontario. She was the beloved wife of Walter Hachborn, whom she married on September 20, 1947. Left to grieve are husband Walter; children Susan Heard (spouse David), Elizabeth Hachborn (spouse David Courtnage), and Bill Hackborn (spouse Aruna Srivastava); grandchildren Brandon (partner Kelee Wright) and Meghan Huehn, and Daniel (partner Samantha Pearson), Philip, and Beyata Hackborn; sisters Betty Gingrich, Carol Stortz, and Sandra Rohr (Clinton); sister -in-law Mary Brown; brothers Jack Brown (Helen) and Bill Brown (Joyce); sister- and brother-in-law Lorraine and Jack Mahn; and many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her parents William and Gladys Brown; father- and mother-in-law William and Florence Hachborn; brothers Clifford (in childhood) and Howard Brown; sister and brother-in-law Ruth and Wolf Fink; and brothers-in-law Cyril Stortz and Gordon Gingrich. Jean was a long-time, active member of St. James Lutheran Church, St. Jacobs, serving in many capacities, and was a member of church council at the time of her death. She also faithfully served the wider church on boards and committees, including terms on the Board of Governors of Waterloo Lutheran Seminary and the Lutheran Theological Seminary (Saskatoon), and as president of the Women's Auxiliary of Waterloo Lutheran Seminary. Jean was a respected Councilor for the Township of Woolwich from 1977 to 1988 and a member of Regional Council from 1980 to 1982. From 1950 until the birth of her first child, Jean worked with Walter as accounting manager for Hollinger Hardware, a company purchased by Walter and two other partners. Jean was a generous humanitarian, known for her philanthropy in many circles, an astute household manager, a well-read and thoughtful analyst of business and current affairs. The family will receive relatives and friends at the Dreisinger Funeral Home in Elmira on Sunday, December 28, 2014 from 2-4 p.m. and Monday, December 29, 2014 from 2-4 p.m. and 7-9 p.m. Her funeral will be held and her life celebrated at St. James Lutheran Church in St. Jacobs on Tuesday, December 30, 2014 at 11 a.m. with interment to follow at St. Matthew's Cemetery, Conestogo. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Canadian Lutheran World Relief, St. James Lutheran, St. Jacobs Endowment Fund or Woolwich Community Services. Jesus said to her, "I am the resurrection and the life. Any who believe in me will live, even though they die." We look forward to seeing you again our dearest Jean, Mom, and Gramma.
