  • Notes
    • Passed away on Sunday, May 26, 2013 at Saint Luke's Place, in his 88th year. Born in Hespeler on January 16, 1926, Harry was the beloved and cherished husband and best friend of Gaylia (Gay) Stager for 63 years. Son of the late Charles and Lily Stager, of Hespeler. Dearest father of Jane Sheppard (Brian), Pat Stager (Jim) and Bob Stager (Marian), loving grandfather to Jenny (Jamie), Andrew (Amy), Heather (Kerry), Nicole, Aaron (Kim), Jocelyn (Dana) and Lee- Anne. Proud great-grandfather of Caleb, Alexis, Nathan, Aidan, Owen, Juliana and Jake. Brother of the late Frances Wilson of Brampton.

Harry was born in Hespeler, educated at Hespeler Public School and Preston High School. In 1944, he joined the RCAF on active service in Canada and England as an air gunner. Harry returned home in 1946, obtained his Funeral Director's License and became a partner in the Stager Family Funeral and Furniture Business. He was sole proprietor of the Stager Funeral Home until 1957, when the business was sold. In 1961, Harry became a Registered Real Estate Salesman, obtained his Broker's License and FRI Degree. He opened his own brokerage, Stager Real Estate Ltd. in Cambridge in 1974 and retired from active work in 1994. Harry always proudly claimed Hespeler as his home town and gave back to his community in many different ways; the Real Estate Board, Service Clubs and Church Committees. He was an active member of the BIA Committee of Cambridge and received the first Bert Bond Award for service to the community. He was one of 14 chosen from the community to visit Japan on a Goodwill Tour to encourage Toyota to settle in Cambridge. A man with great faith, his church life meant a great deal to him. He worked on many church committees and sang in choirs for 40 years. Harry was a man of integrity and compassion. His greatest asset was his sense of humor, even when his health was failing. His greatest love and devotion was to his family.

Cremation has taken place with interment in the New Hope Cemetery. A memorial service will be held on Saturday, June 15th at 11 am at St. Andrew's (Hespeler) Presbyterian Church. In lieu of flowers, donations to the Alzheimer's Society of Cambridge, St. Andrew's (Hespeler) Presbyterian Church or Saint Luke's Place Foundation would be greatly appreciated. Arrangements entrusted to the Lounsbury Funeral Home, Cambridge, Ontario.
