    • STAGER, Mary Elizabeth(Keffer) - On April 22, 2002„ at Cambridge Memorial Hospital, in her 101st year.

Married in 1928 to Harry Stager (1987). They had over 60 glorious years together. Mary is survived by her loved and loving children, Johr (Joan) of Vancouver, B.C., Charles (Anne) and Elizabeth (Darrell) Ackford of Cambridge. Ont. and William (Marjorie) of Kamloops, B.C. She was the quintessential and perfectly adored grandmother for Andrew Stager, Christine Stager. William Ackford. Daniel (Lenny) Ackford and Thomas (Joanne) Ackford, Mary Stager and Geoffrey Stager. And she was the wonderful G-G (great-grandmother) for Arielle and Max Ackford. There are many nieces and nephews for whom Aunt Mary was a special person.

Born in Hespeler. the daughter of Wellington and Ellen Keffer, she became a kindergarten teacher in Uxbridge. St. Catherines and Hespeler before she married and moved to Preston. She took up family life. supported Harry in his business and was active in her Quill Club, the IODE, the Eastern Star, Rotary-Anns and especially in the Sunday School and other activities of St Paul's United Church. Mary joined the Galt Country Club in 1946 and quickly endeared herself to countless friends in that great recreation of golf which she played until she was 93. For the past 21 years there has been an annual Mary Stager Field Day at the Club in honour of her sparkling and winsome personality. She spanned the century past, losing two brothers in the First World War, that began with electricity and automobiles and ended with travels in space. During the whole of that time, she was alert to each new change and lived her life with optimism, good humour and abiding faith. Since 1994 Mary was a resident of Saint Luke's Place where she was the object of much affection which she shared with the nurses and staff, all of whom gave such loving care. Wherever she went her bright wit, wisdom and friendship touched many lives. The family and friends who survive have wonderful memories that will not fade.

The family will receive Mends at the Barthel Funeral Home, 566 Queenston Rd.. Cambridge on Wednesday from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. The funeral service will be held at the funeral home on Thursday, April 25, 2002 at 2 p.m. Interment in New Hope Cemetery, Cambridge.
