Notes |
- NAIRN, JAMES MITCHELL was born in Guelph in 1858.
Following his preliminary education he taught school for a time before attending Victoria University, Toronto, graduating in 1886.
He first practised in Port Dover, and then moved to Elora, where his name appears in a directory of 1895. The Winterbourne notes of the Daily Telegraph announced on March 18, 1903:
Dr. Nairn has opened his office opposite Mr. E. H. Adamson. s store. Dr. Nairn comes well recommended.
He had a private telephone line to Maryhill where a number of his patients lived.
Although he is listed in West Montrose in directories, including the Ontario Medical Register for 1922, he never lived there, according to his daughter, Mrs. E. H. Norman of Elmira.
The Daily Record of September 6, 1923 said:
Dr. and Mrs. Nairn moved to Toronto last week where they will reside in the future.
He had retired from practice but kept up an interest in medical affairs, and was a life member of the Toronto East Medical Association. He died in Toronto on February 12, 1940, at 81 years of age. He was survived by four daughters and two sons.
