- A-1-130 Christopher Humble Probate of will of Christopher Humble of the Township of North Dumfries, Yeoman, deceased, on the petition of Helen Humble, Executrix (George McDonald and Robert Walker therein named Executors having duly renounced) and which said will is in the words following, namely
I Christopher Humble, formerly Shoemaker and Farmer in North Dumfries, now residing in the Village of Ayr….To my beloved wife Helen Humble I leave no legacy hoping that what she is allowed by laws of this province will be sufficient for her support for the term of her natural life: To my eldest daughter Mary Humble I bequeath the sum of one hundred and twenty five pounds. To my second daughter Margaret Humble I bequeath the sum of one hundred and twenty five pounds. What remains of my property [over?] the above legacys I bequeath to my three sons viz Christopher, John & George Humble to be equally divided & shared among them. The time when these several legacyies[sic] shall be paid I leave to be regulated by my Executors, & in this they must be guided by the situation and circumstances in which my family may be placed. But what of these legacies may be paid during the lifetime of my widow must not bear interest as I would wish the interest to go for their daily support as far as possible. As my wife Ellen Humble at the time of our marriage was possessed of money or property to the amount of fifty pounds, I do hereby will that the sum of fifty pounds be at the disposal of my widow Helen Humble for the benefit of her four children by a former husband, she being at full liberty to will dispose & divide the same among these four children by her first husband, or to any of them as prudence may suggest or as she may think proper according to their circumstances. I hereby appoint my beloved wife Helen Humble, Mr Robert Walker, Farmer, Blenheim and Mr George McDonnald[sic] Store Keeper, Ayr, Executors of this my last will and testament….Should any of the legatees be removed by death before receiving their legacies their legacy must be equally apportioned among the survivors…
