Notes |
- HUMBLE, CHRISTOPHER was born in Ayr, and after graduating from the University of Toronto in 1869, began to practice there. His card in March 1870 locates him at the first door east of the Commercial Hotel, Stanley Street. His stay was short, Galt Reporter of June 17 said of him:
Dr. C. Humble, who is a native of Ayr, and who some two years ago carried off some of the principal medals at the Toronto University, and who has been practising with us since then has now resolved to see more of the world, and intends leaving Ayr tomorrow for Missouri or Kansas to push his fortunes in the West. Since he returned from College and commenced his practice in this village, his agreeable manner and deportment has confirmed the good opinion formerly held of him by his many friends and relations. While we regret to lose such an esteemed citizen, we heartily wish him much prosperity and happiness wherever his lot may be cast, and heartily recommend him to all with whom he may come in contact.
The Dumfries Reformer on June 22nd., said his "brief career has already won for him golden opinions from everybody."

DR. HUMBLE IS DEAD
Former Wichita Citizen and Prominent Presbyterian Worker Dies At Fredonia.
Dr. Christopher Humble, district secretary for the Presbyterian Sabbath School association, with headquarters at Chicago, died suddenly of heart disease in Fredonia, Kan., last Saturday afternoon, according to a letter received by A. A. Hyde, of this city, by Dr. S. R. Ferguson, who in company with Dr. Humble, presided over a Sunday school convention in Wichita last Thursday evening. Dr. Humble was well known among Wichita church people, and among all old timers in this city. He formerly resided on College Hill, removing from this city about twenty years ago.
Dr. Humble was at one time Assistant Pastor of the First Presbyterian church in this city, and at that time had charge of the Presbyterian Sunday school work here. He had been a prominent Sunday school worker all his life, and since leaving Wichita has been a Sunday School missionary in the mountains of West Virginia, Tennessee and Kentucky. Later his headquarters were established at Chicago and he was obliged to do much traveling work. At the time of his death he and Dr. Ferguson, of Cedar Rapids, Ia., were making a tour of Kansas. They had conducted a convention of Presbyterian Sunday schools in Wichita last Thursday night.
