  Mr. John Oppertshauser, a well-known and respected citizen of Elmira, passed away at his home on William Street on Tuesday morning of this week in his 69th year. Mr. Oppertshauser had been in ill-health for a couple of years. Last summer he was obliged to go to the hospital in Kitchener for treatment, where he had to undergo a serious major operation. He spend five weeks there and returning home, seemingly felt considerably better for a time, but his condition again grew worse and the end came on Tuesday. The late Mr. Oppertshauser was born in Woolwich Township, being a son of the late Mr. and Mrs. Conrad Oppertshauser. When a young man he went to Sebewaing, Mich., where about 38 years ago he was married to Marie Armbruster. He resided in Sebewaing in all about seven years, and five years after his marriage he returned, taking up farming in North Woolwich. After twelve years on the farm he came to Elmira and has been resident here for 21 years. He was a member of St. James' Lutheran church. Besides his widow the late Mr. Oppertshauser leaves a family of two daughters and two sons, namely: Mrs. Cecil Heipel, of Elmira and Mrs. Charles Miller of Kitchener, and Messrs. M. J. and Walter at home. One brother, Mr. Henry Oppertshauser, of Kitchener, also survives. The remains will be resting at the Dreisinger Funeral Home until Thursday evening when they will be taken to his late home on William street and the funeral takes place from there on Friday afternoon at two o'clock to St. James' Lutheran church for service by the pastor, Rev. L. H. Kalbfleisch. Interment will take place afterwards in the Elmira Cemetery. Elmira Signet 20 Feb 1936
